TITLE: Bus Driver
REPORTS TO: Assistant Transportation Director, Principals and Superintendent
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: To be determined by Administration and the Board of Trustees
JOB SUMMARY:
To represent Fremont County School District 24 Transportation Department in the daily transporting of students to and from school and all related functions. Assures the mission and philosophy of the district and department are supported throughout the position's area of responsibility.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Appropriate CDL License with BPS endorsements.
- Maintain criteria of DOT physical for drivers.
- Meet current district vehicle insurance qualifications for driving coverage.
- Attend and successfully complete annual transportation training requirements on Student Discipline, Hazard Communication, and OSHA requirements.
- Must know and apply Wyoming rules and laws of the road.
- Current requirement is "less than 3 traffic violations within the last 3 years."
- Ability to recognize mechanical problems that would require stopping of bus to prevent damage or potential accident while driving.
- Read gauges on dash of bus and recognize indicators of problems.
- Ability to follow and successfully complete both written and oral directions.
- Possess sound emotional judgment.
- Ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations.
- Ability to handle student discipline by approved department procedures.
- Reading ability adequate to follow directions resulting in making effective work decisions.
- Must obtain First Aid/CPR certification within one (1) year of employment, and keep certifications current during employment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections on the vehicle and its special equipment.
- Operate the vehicle in a safe and efficient manner.
- Check and maintain fuel levels on your assigned bus.
- Complete required reports in the prescribed manner.
- Uphold all Federal, State and local laws and regulations.
- Attend all required meetings and workshops.
- Assist in cleaning bus garage when necessary.
- Share all vehicle questions or vehicle maintenance concerns with Transportation Director.
- Work directly with Transportation Director for training needs, evacuations and camera use.
- Use positive verbal and non-verbal communication and interaction skills when working with students, parents and all district personnel at all times.
- Maintain student discipline on bus utilizing district student discipline procedures and turning misconduct forms into appropriate principal.
- Maintain a clean bus and conduct bus checks to ensure no student is left on the bus.
- Maintain confidentiality of all information concerning students, staff or parent/guardians in all situations.
- As a safety standard, employee must comply with and pass drug and alcohol testing requirements.
- Report traffic violations as required by the Department of Transportation.
- Keep radio traffic to only necessary department business.
- Conduct two evacuations per year for each student group transported.
- Make self available on varied schedule for "snow days".
- Operates cellular phone and two-way radio and uses proper radio communications.
- Monitor radio and cellular phone at all times.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
- Utilize proper OSHA procedures necessary when handling bodily fluids.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of Board Policy or as determined by the Superintendent at the direction of the Board.
